FOTINI GOUSETI

O Gosto Do Vivo (2018) is a herbarium made out of a second-hand photoalbum bought on the streets of Rio de Janeiro. This container holds pressed plants collected from historically heavily-charged sites. I claim these plants as monuments and storytellers which testify to aspects of history related to colonisation and slavery. The included manuscript portrays the experiences that inform my understanding of these places. The narrative draws lines that connect the colonial past with the violent political conditions experienced in Rio between March 6 and June 20, 2018, and intimately foreshadows the coming of the current government.

O Gosto Do Vivo results from my residency at CAPACETE in Rio de Janeiro.
